Reflective
I have personally changed mentally as well as physically over the years of going to ACLC. ACLC has changed along with me in many ways. This school has grown from when I was in 7th grade and still but a child, from when there was only 150 learners to now when I am a Senior in high school preparing to graduate and move on to the next step of my life with a graduating class of only 17 in a school of 305 learners. ACLC takes on a more college styled type of school schedule. There are free periods for project time which I have been able to take advantage of as well as getting used to this new style and system that this school runs by opposed to a traditional middle/high school. This new and different style of learning fit me well leaving some time in the afternoons to do extra-curricular activities if I get my work done and don’t procrastinate which helps me take my education into my own hands. I have become a tall and increasingly outgoing learner from being a small and shy student.
Over the years I have been able to improve my general proficiency in subjects across the board. I have never had a problem with school but there is always room for improvement. ACLC through its different teaching and learning styles has taught me to be more than proficient in my studies. I have become an organized and increasingly proficient organizer of my time around sports and other extra-curricular activities. I have completed all of my A-G courses as well as challenged myself with the Honors classes that were available. Sadly, I have too busy with things to take the AP courses at Encinal but it would have been nice and convenient to have this opportunity at ACLC.
Aclc as a school and community has assisted me in improving on thinking and reasoning skills. I have improved by thinking out more in depth in every class and subject by digging beneath the surface and trying to discover anything else there is to learn. While using reasoning skills I have been able to get my work done more efficiently with time management and efficiency in general work ethics. Aclc has helped me with these skills and to develop myself as a lifelong learner.
In terms of interpersonal and collaborative ability, this school is very strong in this area. With the emphasis on group projects with individual work, the school provides a realistic sense of what we will face later in life. With projects from group posters, to a rube goldberg machine, to a homemade movie about how to cook in spanish, Aclc has ensured that there are always group assignments to strive with your fellow classmates in your own learning experience. I have greatly improved on my own cooperation and organization in group and single projects thanks to Aclc.
The technology used at Aclc is very useful and entirely one of the basics fundamentals of Aclc and its functions. With constant access to technology at my school I am able to efficiently get my work done with having the time in the afternoon for soccer, friends, and family. With this valuable resource available throughout my free time during school and even after school, the school is able to have classes based off of technology. I have taken advantages of these classes by taking Digital music for two years as well as almost taking Engineering Graphics if my schedule had not changed my 11th grade year. Overall, I have been able to use these advantages to improve on my schoolwork and become an efficient learner.
